You Were Made for More Than This

Everything begins and ends at the Cross.

Maybe you’ve never been to church. Maybe you went for years and something still feels missing. Maybe you’re tired, ashamed, or wondering whether God cares about you.

You’re welcome here. No pressure. Just a plain look at what the Bible says about God, about you, and about what Jesus Christ did on the Cross.

What Happens When I Die?

It’s the question all of us carry, whether we say it out loud or not.

“And as it is appointed unto men once to die, but after this the judgment:” (Hebrews 9:27)

The Bible doesn’t dodge the question. But here is the good news: God doesn’t leave you to wonder or to earn your way. He made a way to be certain, and that way is a Person, Jesus Christ.

“For God so loved the world, that he gave his only begotten Son, that whosoever believeth in him should not perish, but have everlasting life.” (John 3:16)

The Romans Road: Five Steps to Peace with God

1. We all have a sin problem.

“For all have sinned, and come short of the glory of God;” (Romans 3:23)

God is holy, and none of us is: not the good person, not the church person. We can’t climb our way back to God. So God came to us.

2. Sin costs us everything, but God offers a gift.

“For the wages of sin is death; but the gift of God is eternal life through Jesus Christ our Lord.” (Romans 6:23)

A wage is earned. A gift is received.

3. Christ died for you.

“But God commendeth his love toward us, in that, while we were yet sinners, Christ died for us.” (Romans 5:8)

At Calvary the sinless Son of God took your place. He didn’t wait for you to clean up first.

4. Believe in Him and call on Him.

“That if thou shalt confess with thy mouth the Lord Jesus, and shalt believe in thine heart that God hath raised him from the dead, thou shalt be saved.” (Romans 10:9)

“For whosoever shall call upon the name of the Lord shall be saved.” (Romans 10:13)

“Whosoever” includes you. Turn from your sin toward God, and trust Jesus, who died, was buried, and rose again.

5. Rest in His finished work.

“Therefore being justified by faith, we have peace with God through our Lord Jesus Christ:” (Romans 5:1)

On the Cross Jesus said, “It is finished” (John 19:30). The debt was paid in full. You don’t add to it; you receive it.

“For by grace are ye saved through faith; and that not of yourselves: it is the gift of God: Not of works, lest any man should boast.” (Ephesians 2:8–9)

What New Life in Christ Looks Like

Jesus didn’t come only to take you to heaven someday. He came to give you life now.

“I am come that they might have life, and that they might have it more abundantly.” (John 10:10)

  • Freedom from sin’s guilt. “There is therefore now no condemnation to them which are in Christ Jesus” (Romans 8:1).
  • Freedom from sin’s power, including addiction. “If the Son therefore shall make you free, ye shall be free indeed.” (John 8:36)
  • Freedom from shame. God doesn’t patch up the old you. He makes you new. “Therefore if any man be in Christ, he is a new creature: old things are passed away; behold, all things are become new.” (2 Corinthians 5:17)
  • Peace in place of fear and emptiness. “Being justified by faith, we have peace with God” (Romans 5:1). The empty place in your heart was made for Him.
  • Rest for the weary. “Come unto me, all ye that labour and are heavy laden, and I will give you rest.” (Matthew 11:28)
  • His power, not yours. This isn’t self-improvement. “I am crucified with Christ: nevertheless I live; yet not I, but Christ liveth in me” (Galatians 2:20).
  • Hope that lasts. You can know you have eternal life (1 John 5:13). And heaven’s greatest treasure is Jesus Himself.

A Simple Prayer of Response

The words of a prayer don’t save you. Jesus Christ saves. What matters is the faith in your heart, turning from sin and trusting Him alone. If you’d like help putting that into words, you can pray something like this:

Heavenly Father, I know I am a sinner, and I cannot save myself. I believe that Jesus Christ is Your Son, that He died on the Cross for my sins, was buried, and rose again. I turn from my sin and place my faith in Jesus as my Saviour. I’m not trusting in my own goodness. I’m trusting in His finished work. Thank You for loving me. Thank You for the Cross. Help me follow You from this day forward. In Jesus’ name, Amen.
